Writing ‘Energy Healing: The Training Manual’ was a long labour of love! I began to gather information for it in 2010, after 7 years’ experience of working with a Healing Support Group in the Chaplaincy Centre at the Borders General Hospital in the Scottish Borders.
We offered twice monthly clinics which became increasingly popular; we worked together and we learned together, developing our professional skills, assessing the different needs of the people who sought our healing help, and expanding our knowledge of energy with workshops on topics such as Healing Communication Skills, Living with Dying, and Spiritual Healing. During the last 14 years (now with over a years’ break due to the Covid-19 pandemic) we have treated people with many different needs, including acute and chronic physical conditions, deep seated psychological problems, and terminal illness.
Organising the Healing Support Group has been the culmination of my work in health care, which started in 1964 when I became a cleaner in a children’s ward, which I can still remember it as if were yesterday. I qualified as a state registered nurse at Bart’s Hospital in London in 1970, where I learned to care for bodies but not so much for minds or souls. I taught Health and Social Care at Doncaster College of Further Education in the 1980s, (low point – being told ‘Christina, what you are saying is really boring!’, and high point - being told that the students had ‘happy memories of me as a hippy chick!’) I became a registered healing practitioner in 1998, and a qualified tutor in 2003; my mantra for healing work became: ‘always wait to be asked, trust your intuitive voice, and check that you are grounded.’
The other constant thread running through my life has been a deep, enduring faith, which has found great sustenance in spiritual education, which began for me in 1977, learning about the unity of being, and the universal perspective that does not deny any form of belief but focuses on self-knowledge as the guiding force in life. It gives me a sense of joy and a meaning and purpose for living, of being connected to the source of Life Itself.
Now, that’s enough about me!
I wrote ‘Energy Healing: The Training Manual’, as a follow-up to my first book ‘Energy Healing: The Practical Workbook’, which was published by Watkins in 2008. I wanted the content of the Training Manual to focus on the Act of Healing itself, on the simplicity and purity of it, and ended up writing 196 pages about it!
The Training Manual is composed of three sections:
1 - The Science of Energy, according to ancient tradition and modern evidence, which relates to the aura, the chakras, the meridians and the physical body. It describes how energy circulates through them and how they reflect and influence one another, with illustrations to clarify how they reveal themselves in every human being.
2 - The Art of Healing, which focuses on both Distant and Contact Healing, from the historical background to the preparation, provision and conclusion of each treatment, exploring the spontaneous nature, the unique response, and the potential for learning from every session with the patient/client.
3 - The Training Record, which offers a convenient framework for writing about the Science of Energy and the Act of Healing, using the text of the manual as a source of reference. It creates the opportunity for revising, recalling and reflecting on the nature and the experience of sensing energy in ‘Healing Mode’, when patient and practitioner become ‘as one’, united in a single field of energy during the healing process.
Learning about energy never stops, because its presence is endless, innovative, circulating through us and beyond us. As the poet and writer William Blake says:
‘Energy is the only life, and is from the body;
And Reason is the bound or outward circumference of Energy;
Energy is Eternal Delight.’
Amen to that!
The Training Manual shows the astute insight Christina owns with regards to students’ needs through natural progression, connecting practical sessions with theory by adding more in-depth knowledge at just the right moments – it is indeed the silver cord to empower the students on their spiritual journey, while maintaining the high standards of the Code of Conduct. I would also highly recommend Energy Healing: The Training Manual for both Mentors and Students.
Christina’s current book, Energy Healing: The Training Manual, reflects the wealth of knowledge she has in this area. Christina introduces theoretical concepts and does a wonderful job in describing things in detail, and provides a comprehensive, step-by-step guide for the reader.
I would highly recommend this book for practitioners as well as those interested in beginning their journey in Energy Healing.
Christina Mark’s Healing Training Manual is a remarkable piece of work. It is a comprehensive guide to every aspect of healing, covering the Indian, Chinese and Western approaches to disease and medicine in a very clear and well set out way, and in an equally clear way it explains the different levels of healing and the processes involved in reaching each level. It is easy to read and well set out, and is obviously written by someone with a remarkable understanding of the subject, extensive practical experience, a lightness of touch, and a great deal of love.
According to the author, her Energy Healing Training Manual evolved out of an intention to simply compile her own knowledge about Healing, and to order her thoughts. The result is an impressive and comprehensive A4 spiral bound book with a glossy wrap-around cover, extending to 196 pages.
The manual is divided into three logical sections: The Science of Healing, The Art of Healing and The Training Record.
It’s fair to say that although aimed at the student of Healing the first two sections could make an interesting read for anyone curious about the subject, covering the ground as it does in easily digested nuggets of knowledge.
The first section, ’Science of Energy’, traces the path of energy from the universal to the particular; following its progress through the subtle systems of the Aura, Chakras and the Meridians, into the denser systems of the physical body.
There are helpful charts and diagrams along the way, enabling the reader to understand these esoteric concepts more easily. Guiding us step by step, Christina Mark presents a coherent model of how the Spirit, Mind, and Body interact, with clarity and simplicity.
The second section, the ‘Art of Healing’, begins by explaining the concepts behind eight ancient Healing traditions, before bringing us up to date with the new scientific understanding of energy through Quantum Science.
The section moves on to more practical elements, detailing some necessary skills and practices for the trainee; in particular how to Meditate, how to communicate, how to prepare oneself, and how to conduct a treatment. Whilst there is a lot of common sense information about delivering §§Healing treatments it’s important to note that the Manual is intended as an adjunct to training, and as such a novice would not be able to learn how to do healing simply from reading it.
The section concludes with Worksheets and checklists to consolidate the student’s understanding of the practicalities of healing, including Record Keeping and an understanding of the Law and Code of Conduct.
The final section ‘Healing Diary: Training Record’ serves as a place for the student to review their knowledge of the subtle bodies, energy systems and physical body via worksheets, plus there’s a helpful array of blank forms for documenting both the student’s own progress and for recording clinical practise. The author has also thoughtfully included a suggested reading list.
In summary, the Manual works as a very helpful and concise companion for the student of Healing. Offering a grounded approach to the many facets of the work, it shows the author's clear intent to support students at every stage of their healing journey.
Please forgive the pun as I give this Manual full ‘Marks’.
This book presents to the student a triple delight of information, education and reflection. Set out in three distinct segments it will serve as a companion for the student from training and early practice, becoming a much respected and consulted reference text for many years to come.
The core values which underpin healing and energy work are laid out in a wonderfully open and easily assimilated first part of the book. Throughout the text, the author has mindfully included areas to allow notes to be made – showing a real consideration for the needs of the student or newly qualified practitioner.
The second section of the book offers historical and traditional aspects of and attitudes to healing practice. A methodical approach to understanding the needs of the person seeking help and the means by which treatment can be offered are considered in great detail.
The final part of the book contains a selection of forms that make up the documentation required to record treatments given and the progress of those treatments. Also included are opportunities to document reflective practice and continued training and development of the practitioner.
It is clear from the wealth of material presented that the author is sharing the very best of her knowledge, experience and understanding of energy healing work. Energy Healing – The Training Manual should be a compulsory text for all students, such is the breadth of information and learning contained within.
