I have spent the whole of my working life, which began in 1964, in health care as a nurse, a tutor, and a practitioner of energy healing.
Looking back through all these years, I realise that everything happened for me at the right time and in the right place.
That’s my maxim for health care too, asking for the right treatment, from the right person, at the right time, in the right place. I believe that every form of treatment, whether conventional or complementary, works to its greatest potential under these conditions. However, the intriguing thing for me about working directly with the natural healing process, as in energy/spiritual healing, is that it isn’t a therapy; it’s more of a support that enables patients/clients to access their own healing energy, so that they can do all the work for themselves!
The healing practitioner concentrates on the energy of the patient, and witnesses what is happening, but doesn’t interfere with it in any way. It’s a process of acceptance - of allowing the energy to fulfil its self-appointed functions to the best of its healing ability. This requires faith – in healing energy itself, in its innate intelligence, and in myself as a channel through which the energy can be transmitted. It’s no wonder that practitioners of natural healing were often called ‘faith healers’!
I have spent nearly 30 years with the NFSH/Healing Trust, first as a registered member, and then as a tutor. For the last 15 years I have worked with a group of dedicated healing practitioners at the Borders General Hospital in Scotland, apart from a break of a year and a half due to the Covid pandemic. We offer healing treatments to the staff, the patients and to the general public on a monthly basis.
This is healing practice on the front line! Just as every treatment is unique to meet the needs of the person receiving it, so is its potential to support any manifestation of physical, mental, and spiritual distress. Maintaining the professional standards of both the NHS and the NFSH/Healing Trust is essential, as is our accountability for the way in which we organise our clinic.
Working like this has taught me so much that I want to pass on what I have learned, and to focus on what to me are the key elements in energy/spiritual healing training. You may ask “what is the difference between energy and spiritual healing?”
I suggest that you read ‘Energy Healing: The Training Manual’ for an answer!
